Help for Digital Switchover at Loughborough Library

At Loughborough Library on Thursday 21st July 10am – 12noon there will be an information and awareness session regarding the BBC help scheme for the Digital Switchover.

A representative from the BBC Switchover Help Scheme will be in the library to help those who may find it difficult to switch to digital TV.





‘Support 2 Work’ at Barwell Library

From the 1st March, a new work club will be starting at  Barwell Library. It will be running from 10am until 11.30am every Tuesday throughout March. Anyone unemployed or at risk of redundancy can call in to receive help with:

 

  • CV writing
  • Searching for jobs over the internet
  • Completing job applications
  • Accessing training including computer courses and those around confidence building.

Support 2 Work initiative continues at Hinckley Library

Special workshops aimed at helping people get back into work or training will be continuing this New Year at Hinckley Library.

 

The Support 2 Work workshops have been running since November at the library and will continue to run every Wednesday from 11am – 2pm. They are for anyone aged 19 years or older who is unemployed or at risk of redundancy.  Specially trained staff from the County Council and from partner organisations, Acorn Training and Next Step will be on hand to advise people and help get them back into work or training. Areas they can help with include:

  • CV writing
  • Searching for jobs over the internet
  • Completing job applications
  • Accessing training including computer courses and those around confidence building.

 

Anyone interested in finding work or entering training can drop into the work club for information, advice and guidance.

Broughton Astley Community Event

Broughton Astley Library is having an open morning for young families and OAPs to find out more about learning and community opportunities in Broughton Astley.

It takes place on Wednesday 26th January 10am – 12.30pm. It’s free and refreshments will be provided.

Activities include:

  • Have a go on a computer – ICT taster sessions for adults (supported by Thomas Estley C C pupils)
  • Games and stories for under 5’s
  • Meet your local police officers
  • Meet the Children’s Outreach Worker from the Children’s Centre
  • Meet a representative from the Parish Council
  • Broughton Astley Improvement Team – find out what we’ve been doing
  • See the fantastic 3D model of Broughton Astley
  • And lots more!!!

 





Come for Coffee at Ashby Library

Ashby library will be holding a Coffee morning on Tuesday 7 December, between 10.30am and 12 noon.  The theme for this month is “Winter Warmers”.  Everyone is welcome to come and have a drink, mince pie and chat about their favourite winter warmer, why not take the time to come along and meet new people and explore the library.

Dyslexia Drop-In sessions in libraries

As part of their commitment to raising awareness of dyslexia,  the Learning Support Service is working with Library Services to reach parents/carers/families in Leicestershire.

They will be running 3 drop-in events at libraries, during March – LSS tutors will be available to talk informally about dyslexia and how this affects children and young people. Some resources and approaches will be available to view.

Biccies, books and chat at Blaby Library

Take the stress out of Monday morning with a bit of a breather in Blaby Library. Pop in anytime between 10.00am and  12.00noon on Monday 1 March for a relaxed chat over a hot drink.

Everyone is welcome, and if it proves popular the library plans to make it a regular event. Donations for refreshments are appreciated.
