Life in the Woods

As part of Loughborough University’s contemporary arts programme, Radar, are screening a film put together by students and funded by the Arts Council at Loughborough Library on Monday 20th February 6.30pm.

The film titled ‘Life in the Woods’ was produced for a project called Folk Variations and was made during the Spring of last year on location in a Leicestershire wood.

This was a collective exercise in communal living, an experiment which was documented by the people taking part. Local poet Mark Goodwin has also been involved in the project.It’s a free event so please let friends and family know.

In this touching British drama, a 10 year old boy (Bill Milner) lives in the seaside retirement home where his parents work, and his interests have unsurprisingly moved toward death, ghosts and the afterlife. His lonely world changes when a retired magician (Michael Caine) comes to stay and an unusual friendship is forged.

This is a cosy theatre in a unique venue that brings a special atmosphere to an evening of entertainment.  It includes a bar with light refreshments, teas and coffees.

New library reward scheme!

Free DVD hire is one of the great rewards available in libraries’ new money-saving loyalty scheme. Library members can join the free scheme and collect points each time they visit a County library or mobile and borrow six or more items.

Library members will be issued with their own rewards card and can collect up to 12 stamps which can be cashed in for any of these fantastic library rewards:

  • Set of headphones (12 stamps)
  • Jute bag (12 stamps)
  • Free week loan of DVD/CD or talking book (6 stamps)
  • Children’s poster/activity book (6 stamps)
  • Free book request (3 stamps)
  • Free UK fax up to the value of £1.50 (3 stamps)
  • 3 free print outs/photocopies (2 stamps).

The art of “perfect snogging”

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging will be shown at Snibston Century Theatre on Friday, January 23.

The film, based on the best-selling books by Louise Rennison (check out our library catalogue to reserve a copy!), follows the life of Georgia Nicholson, an eccentric and irresistible teenager struggling through life. Georgia’s main aims in life are to get a gorgeous boyfriend and throw the greatest 15th birthday party ever.

The film is rated 12A and the showing starts at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7.00pm. Tickets cost £3.50 on the door. The Century Cinema is at Snibston in Ashby Road, Coalville LE67 3LN. A unique venue and film not to be missed!
