Fancy some ‘me time’ and enjoy crafting?
Loughborough Library’s Crafternoon group meets monthly on a Wednesday 1.30-3.30pm.
They’re a friendly group of crafters who enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge. Some of the crafts that are happening in the group are knitting, crochet, tatting, embroidery, beading and card making.
Meeting dates over the next few months are: 9th November, 14th December and 10th January.
There will be lots to keep library users of all ages active in mind and body in Oadby & Wigston in April.
Lyrical laughs can be had at Wigston Library on Saturday April 2nd when humorous poetry from Urdu and Hindi cultures, known as Mazahia Shayeri, will be explored for free from 3 – 5pm.
Wigston Library will also host its regular free knitting group at 2pm on Monday April 4th, and its stroll club, which is also free, on Wednesday April 6th at 10.30am. All ages and abilities are welcome to these events, which are as much about socialising as they are about developing skills or keeping healthy.
As part of Listen While You Lunch, Oadby Library will be hosting a visit by local historian Sally Henshaw, who will reveal the life and times of the notorious Nell Gwyn, mistress of King Charles II.
This talk will take place at 12 noon on Thursday 7th April, with tickets costing £2.50, including light refreshments. Pre-booking is required for this event.
Explore Learning creative writing workshops offer schoolchildren between the ages of 7 and 11 years old the chance to imagine, plan and write their own stories and characters. There will be one hour sessions at Wigston Library on Thursday 21st April at 2pm, and at South Wigston Library on Tuesday 26th April at 2pm.
For even younger bookworms, free Wriggly Reader sessions will take place every Tuesday 10- 10.30am at Wigston Library, every Wednesday 2 – 2.30pm at Oadby Library, and again every Tuesday 10.30 – 11am at South Wigston Library.
Earl Shilton Library is starting a book group for children aged eight to 11 called Chatterbooks.
Chatterbooks it is a national initiative that was first started in Leicestershire Libraries in 2003 – and it is now time for Earl Shilton to join the fun.
The group will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month from 3.45pm until 5pm.
Within the group children will be encouraged to read adventurously, to share their enthusiasm about books and develop the confidence to formulate and express opinions about reading. Above all, the sessions willl be fun and enjoyable.
Each reading group member will receive a unique pack of Chatterbook materials to get them started including a specially designed reading diary, ‘post-it’ review notes, a bookmark, stickers and a fortune teller game.
The first session (25th February 2010) will involve making name badges, taking a tour of the library and talking about favourite books.

The Thurmaston Library Reading Group is seeking people who would like to share their reading experiences and their love of books with others.
The group will meet monthly at Thurmaston Library on Church Hill Road. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 9 March at 5.30pm and anyone interested in joining the group is invited to go along. The group is free to join and the book being discussed in March will be available to borrow for free from Thurmaston Library after the 9 February.
Book groups are great places to make new friends, discuss books and widen your reading by trying books you might not normally choose for yourself. Over the year a wide range of books will be read and discussed.

Are you interested in knitting and sewing and want to meet in a friendly informal setting where you can chat as well as working on your projects?
Starting from Sunday September 6th Oadby Library,10 The Parade is setting up a social group for stitchers on Sundays 2.00-3.30 pm where you can meet in a friendly atmosphere and have a chat as well as sewing or knitting.
Please bring a pair of 4mm knitting needles and a ball of double wool. Wool will also be available to buy at the library.
Whether you are a knitting novice or an embroidery expert come along to Oadby Library for a knit and a natter, share tips and expertise or learn from others.

Leicestershire Libraries and Loughborough University have agreed a reduced price for all reading group and writing group members for next weekend’s Polyverse Poetry Festival. The festival starts on Friday July 24th and ends on Sunday July 26th.
It’s a massive event, featuring over 40 poets, workshops and discussions…. and Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy!
In recognition of the great support that the library service has given to the festival, prices have been reduced for reading group and writing group members: from £20 to £15 for the whole weekend, and from £10 to £7 for Saturday evening.
Saturday will feature “Dreams of May”, a critically-acclaimed play-in-poetry, four of the best young writers from Leicestershire, plus Carol Ann Duffy.

Do you love reading crime novels? Would you like to share what you have read with other people? Then why not join our Crime Readers’ Group?
The books are chosen by the group in advance and we normally discuss one author or title each month. We often have visiting speakers and enjoy trying quizzes and writing reviews.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 2 June when the group will be discussing author Hazel Holt’s book, Death in Practice.
