Coming Events at Blaby Library

Blaby Library has many events and activities in the New Year kicking off with a Saturday Storytime on 7th January at 11am. This will be followed by Pirate Fun, a free, pirate themed children’s event on Saturday 21st January at 11amChildren can come and enjoy pirate stories and crafts and may even want to dress up!

There will be a Dr Who themed children’s event in half-term too, at 2pm on 13th February, so keep your diary clear for that, it is sure to be popular.

We have plenty for adults too, starting with Andes to Amazon, an exciting, illustrated talk by Kate Moore about her travels through Bolivia, including crossing the world’s largest salt lake and swimming with river dolphins. The talk is on Monday 23rd January at 7pm, tickets are £2  from Blaby Library.

We also have more Family History on the Internet taster sessions, which are filling up fast, due to popular demand. New sessions are scheduled for Saturday 4th February 2-4pm and Saturday 18th February 10am-12pm. These sessions are free, call the library to book a place.

Keeping with the family history theme, Pat Grundy, a family history expert from Wigston Records Office, will be giving a talk on all aspects of family history, as well as expert advice, on Monday 27th February at 7pm. Tickets are £2 each from the library.

Also don’t forget the library runs a Home Library Service for anyone who is unable to get out for any reason, either temporarily or permanently. Ring the library for more details if you, or someone you know, would like books or audiobooks delivering to your home for free.

Volunteers needed for the Home Library Service in Kegworth

Volunteers are needed to help deliver library books to people who have difficulty getting out and about.
The Home Library Service is looking for reliable volunteers who have an interest in books and are able to relate to a variety of people.  The role will involve choosing and delivering books to customers in their own homes.
Leicestershire Libraries depends on volunteers to help provide this important service which can make a very real difference to people’s lives. 
Jane Butler has been volunteering for the Home Library Service for twenty years now. She said:
“I get a real sense of satisfaction from doing something for my local community. I enjoy getting to know the customers and feel that my visits help to improve their quality of life, even if it’s only in a small way. I’ve always loved reading myself, so I enjoy my regular visits to the library where I can chat to the staff about what’s new and what my customers might enjoy.”
Volunteers are currently required in Kegworth
