Council scheme to help tackle unemployment

2 09 2010

A new scheme to help job hunters in Leicestershire get back into work is being launched.

All 54 libraries across Leicestershire are now Multi Access Centres (MACS) – a new service offering help and advice to people who are aged 19 or above who are out of work, or likely to be made redundant.

The aim of the programme is to support people back into work, improve skills and help the local economy.

Our friendly staff will listen to your job needs and help you to work out your next steps towards employment.

This could include:

  • Help in writing a CV and covering letter
  • Feedback on an existing CV
  • Details on adult education courses to improve English and maths skills or build confidence in relation to work
  • Details on training and volunteering
  • Advice on searching for jobs

Bobbie Dabell, who recently moved to Leicestershire, needed help in looking for a job in administration. After visiting Loughborough Library she found out about the new centres and was grateful for the help she received. Bobbie said:

“Thank you so much for all your help, advice and time – now I have a suitable CV and covering letter, hopefully it will assist me in being successful in getting a job.”

Peter Osborne, the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, who is launching the scheme, said:
“This new scheme in Leicestershire is a step in the right direction to help support people back into work. Staff at the County Council’s libraries will be on hand to advise and guide people and help them back on the right track towards getting a job and improving their skills.”

To find out more, visit your local library and a librarian can arrange an appointment. Alternatively, visit: www.leics.gov.uk/multiaccesscentres email: mac@leics.gov.uk or call Martin Hall, MAC Co-ordinator on 07852 228424.
